How to play Glyphloop
Glyphloop is a five-letter word guessing game you can play instantly in any modern browser. The goal is simple: find the hidden word in six guesses or fewer. This page explains the rules, color feedback, game modes, and how sharing works — so you can jump into the playable game with confidence.
The basic loop
- Type a valid five-letter English word using your keyboard or the on-screen keys.
- Press Enter to submit the guess.
- Watch the tiles change color. Use that information on the next guess.
- Repeat until you solve the word or run out of six rows.
Only real words from Glyphloop’s dictionary are accepted. If you see “Not in word list,” try a different spelling. You never need an account; progress for win rate and streak is stored locally in your browser.
What the colors mean
- Green — the letter is in the word and in the correct position. Lock it in.
- Gold — the letter appears in the word, but not in that spot. Move it.
- Gray — the letter is not in the word at all (for usual cases). Avoid reusing it.
Duplicate letters matter. If the answer has one “E” and you guess two, only one tile can be green or gold; the extra “E” will show gray. That is intentional and matches classic word-puzzle logic.
Daily mode vs Unlimited mode
Daily mode picks one puzzle for the calendar day (based on your device date). Everyone playing Daily on the same day gets the same target word, which makes result grids easy to compare with friends.
Unlimited mode picks a fresh random word from the answer list every round. Use it to practice openings, recover after a loss, or play during a long break. You can switch modes any time from the chips above the board.
Winning, losing, and stats
Solve within six guesses to win. If the sixth guess is wrong, the round ends and Glyphloop reveals the answer. Local stats track games played, win percentage, and current streak. Clearing site data in your browser will reset those numbers — they are not uploaded to our servers.
Sharing your result
After a round finishes, Glyphloop builds a text grid of green/gold/gray squares (shown as emoji). Copy it and paste into chat apps or social posts. The share text includes the mode label and how many guesses you used. Please avoid spoilers if your friends still want to solve today’s Daily puzzle.
Devices and accessibility
The layout is designed for phones first: large touch keys, readable tiles, and no hover-only controls. On desktop, physical keyboards work immediately. If colors are hard to tell apart, remember the on-screen keyboard also adopts the same green / gold / gray states for letters you have tried.
Fair play notes
Glyphloop is a single-player logic game. There is no multiplayer ranking that would reward bots. Feel free to use a paper notepad. Looking up the answer mid-round defeats the point — but practicing openings in Unlimited mode is encouraged.
